Dishes were on back order and not to arrive before mid march but were here by valentine's day. nothing broken. I love the shapes of the dishes..just wish they had the completer sets available, but they are available in some of the high end gift and card shops. Price was much better here and shipping was cheaper than the manufacturer's site. I'm very pleased.

They are beautiful, however they fill from a small plug in the bottom. This makes it slightly tricky to fill and nearly impossible to clean. If you live in a high humidity or bug infested area where you are likely to need to clean out your salt and pepper shakers sometimes, then you might want to consider other ones. I love this sugar bowl.Nice crisp white without being stark, classic design, and a spot in the lid for the spoon.The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, is that now we have to search for the perfect spoon to fit in it.I'm surprised portmeirion did not include one.One other thing to note, is that it did not look as rustic as it does one the website.For me, that was a good thing.It's really perfect, and is packaged in a nice box that makes it great for gift giving.I gave it with the matching creamer (Sophie Conran by Portmeirion 10-Ounce Creamer, White) to my sister for Christmas and she couldn't be happier.

Just as described. Each measures 3 3/4 by 2 inches and made of strong fine china. I immediately put them through the dishwasher and they came out fine, no chips or scratches. A little brighter white than I had anticipated; they are not what I would call ivory but instead a bright, slightly antique white. Nice weight but still delicate enough for a dinner party and strong enough for every day.

Review of Pfaltzgraff Sedona Vegetable/Serving Bowl

This "Sedona" style 2-quart vegetable/serving bowl by Pfaltzgraff is going to give you years of use with its fantastic dishwasher and microwave safe qualities. The manufacturer claims that it is also oven and freezer safe; but I can't comment on those aspects because I haven't used this bowl to store or cook things in the freezer or my oven.

The design of the bowl is very smart. The interior of the bowl is a warm cream color freckled with blue specks that are all hand painted. This design is nicely complemented by the predominantly warm, earthy tones of the different colored stripes, shapes and colors all around the outside of the bowl. The navy blue areas at the very top and bottom of the outside of the bowl also give the bowl a sharp, smart look. The overall effect certainly does give it that vibrant southwest feel; the design can also go with many contemporary and even modern dining room sets.

This soup or cereal bowl is completely hand painted; that impresses me. There is a five year warranty but with the strength of these bowls I doubt you'll ever need it! When I handle the bowl it feels remarkably sturdy and solid.

Review of Pfaltzgraff Winterberry 9-Inch-by-13-Inch Rectangular Baker

I have owned Pfaltzgraff stoneware in several patterns and must say that Winterberry is my very favorite.This is the perfect dinnerware for all occasions during the Winter season.I recently added this rectangular baker to my collection and am very pleased with it.One of the wonderful things about the stoneware is that you can bake and serve in the same dish.This is a tremendous advantage during busy holidays.Although this baker is somewhat smaller than a Pyrex baker it still has a multitude of uses both for everyday casseroles and bring-a-dish sides that you may want to share.The Winterberry pattern is crisp and beautiful on the white background.Since Pfaltzgraff has moved their manufacturing of stoneware to China, in the past years the early Chinese pieces were quite sub-quality to the previously USA made ones.No so, now.Although there is a slight difference in the white background glaze, the USA items being somewhat creamier and the Chinese pieces being a bit more grayish, at a glance it is difficult to notice.The green around the edge of all the Winterberry pieces is also a deeper shade in the Chinese pieces than the lighter, slightly more teal shade on the USA pieces and this piece is no exception.All in all I am very happy with this baker and it is a nice addition to my collection.However, if you have older USA manufactured Winterberry pieces and want to add this baker, you should be aware that it is made in China and color variations are noticable on close examination.

Review of Royal Albert Old Country Roses 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1

For sixty dollars per place setting you expect quality. I think I got what I expected. I found no flaws, was impressed by the quality of the gold and other 'old country roses' design features, and feel I've risen to a new level of civility!

A high quality place setting will do that for you. These are well made in indonesia, not england. Better made than my indonesian teak lawn furniture, which isn't too shoddy itself regarding quality.

You must feel you need this Royal Albert place setting, as well as the large selection of additional table pieces, or it won't mean anything to you. The pleasure you get from it is internal, in your own mind. It helps you to feel thoroughly middle class, not to put too fine a point on it.

And what's wrong with that? With all the dumbing down of culture as this century gets rolling toward that 'restaurant at the end of the universe,' why should we deny ourselves the pleasure of owning, maybe even using, this fine china.

Now that you have decided to get it, you need a china server! See my 'all my reviews' section for a review of an antique teak piece for an astonishing price.

Next, start thinking about all the other pieces, gravy boats etc., you will want to accumulate over the years to complete your set. Don't take out a second (or third) mortgage on the house to do it though!

This is your basic classic Blue Italian Spode.The same stuff your mother, your grandmother, your great-grandmother etc collected and used on special occasions.The only difference is that it has been updated to be dishwasher and microwave safe.I don't know if the old stuff was also dishwasher and microwave safe and they just added the new stamp, or if they did something to its composition.But it works well.Just be sure to not use a real strong detergent.I did and saw some fading (on lots of other stuff too-that stuff took designs off glasses and other plates).Since switching to a "regular" detergent I have had no problems.

I received this bowl as a wedding gift five years ago.I still use it on a regular basis; it has proven to be useful for many things.

I can empty a 16 oz. bag of frozen vegetables into the bowl, add seasonings, cover it with plastic wrap, and microwave.One bowl cooking!Yes!Just be careful when removing it from the microwave; the stoneware retains a lot of heat and is therefore very hot.

I absolutely love this pattern.It's mirrored finish is just beautiful, and I've not been able to find anything else like it.The problem is, though, that it rusts.I've had 18/10 flatware before, and have never had this rust problem.The knives seem to rust on the actual smooth part as well as the hammered handle, and the others will get it on the handles.I'm so bummed because I can't find another pattern like it anywhere.So I have to give it only 1 star because of the rust.

Review of Villeroy & Boch Country Heritage 10-1/2-Inch Dinner Plate

This is a terrific, well-made dish that can transform easily from everyday use to more formal, with the right table setting. I've been wanting an all white set of dishes, but something that was not too modern or plain. The scalloped edges give this an interesting look. Better yet, the other pieces of the set have interesting differences (e.g. the rice bowl versus the style of the dinner/salad plates) that complement each other without making the set look too matchy matchy.

The photo that Amazon uses for the dinner plate for some reason is far more of a bright white than the other Country Heritage pieces they display, making it almost look like it doesn't fit with the rest of the set. But it doesn't have that same shade disparity in person. I've also seen the occasional/infrequent comment on other sites about the bulky size or shape of the dinner plate, fitting it in the dishwasher, etc. But we didn't find any issues with that at all. They are similarly sized to our old dinner plates and fit in our dishwasher just fine.

Review of Royal Albert Old Country Roses Salad Plate

I ordered four of these plates and they arrived in a large box with four smaller boxes in it, containing one plate each.

I was a bit disappointed as one of the plate was made in Indonesia (the other three were made in England). You can tell the differences: the colors of the roses are less vibrant (especially the red color of the roses is darker and dull) and the gilding at the periphery seems to be of lessor, uneven quality. I did a blind test to my friend and that one plate was easily picked up among four as inferior. However, I must add that the one from Indonesia is still beautiful.

My initial impression of the other three plates are very positive. The colors are deliciously lively, and the glaze has delicate translucency.

As the Amazon description didn't say anything about the country of origin, and I bought it with the 4-for-3 promotion, which is an additional 25% discount on an already marked down price, I'm overall happy with the products. I just hope that the Indonesian plate, as well as the others, retains its initial beauty for long time.

Review of Portmeirion Botanic Garden Measuring Jug 30 oz.

I love this measuring jug. It measures up to 3 1/2 cups. I found another jug also made by Portmeirion which does not show the cup measurements and only has ounces on the inside. I am glad that I bought the one that has both. The measurements are slightly different from my Pyrex cup measure though, so as long as I use this for the entire recipe, it does not matter.
