Review of Villeroy & Boch Switch-3 Decorated Pasta Bowl

As far as I know, this is the only design that V&B produce the 9" pasta bowl in. However it is designed to correspond to all of the Switch 3 patterns. We've had our Switch 3 dishes for about 2 1/2 years, but acquired these in early 2003 when they first came out. Since then, we use them for practically everything - from soup to stew, salad to pasta. In our household, they have pretty much replaced the standard soup bowl piece.
Pros:
1) Very durable - they handle all sorts of abuse in our household including getting banged into the faucet while being washed
2) The ability to mix and match the corresponding patterns is nice. If I get tired of a particular design, I can simply change it. The design of this pasta bowl match each of them nicely.
3) These dishes are dishwasher and microwave safe.
4) The patterns are very versatile and are perfect for both everyday use and for formal occasions. This is great for households with limited storage - instead of two sets of dishes (one everyday, one formal), you only need one set and just switch around your table accessories.
Cons:
1) The 9" pasta bowls don't fit in my dishwasher very well. However, this could be a problem specific to my dishwasher, and may not happen to you. We put them in there anyway, but they take up more "slots" than other plates and bowls do because they have to sit crookedly.
2) This isn't really a "con" per se, but a warning: These are microwave safe, but be careful! We microwaved something one time and I guess we set the time for two long, because when the food became superheated it literally cracked the plate it was on (note: it was NOT the pasta bowl that this happened to). When we took the plate back to the store, we were advised that nothing is entirely "microwave safe" and you just have to be careful. Just thought you should know...
Just FYI... shop around and make sure you price comparison shop before you buy. Prices sometimes vary considerably and even here on Amazon this piece is listed for multiple prices by different vendors.
Overall, I would highly recommend any Villeroy & Boch set, based on our very positive experience with our set. ENJOY!
