Review of Villeroy & Boch Cellini 50-Piece Dinnerware Set

I was looking for a set of dishwasher safe, microwave safe, white china with a simple, traditional design.I saw this set on the Amazon website and decided to order one dinnerplate as a sample.My husband and I both liked the dinnerplate and decided to order the 50 piece set.Villeroy and Boch describe the set as vitrified porcelain.The set is heavier than bone china and most fine china but lighter than ordinary porcelain.The stamp on the back of the plates says "Made in Germany" and "Fine China".The color is off-white allowing for endless table setting options.The color and monochromatic design adds to the both the versatility and elegance of the china.The bowls and teacups have a simple design with vertical lines and a narrow border.The dinnerplates, salad plates, bread and butter plates and saucers have wide borders with intricate patterns.The details of the pattern are highly intricate and impressive from a close distance.Due to the white on white design, the pattern does not stand out from a distance and would not be noticed in a china cabinet.The patterns on each piece are different (i.e., the pattern on the dinnerplates is different from the other plates).

Amazon sent out the item sooner than expected.With the super saver shipping, I received the item within five days of my order.I was disappointed to find that one bowl was chipped and cracked.Amazon promptly issued a credit for the bowl which I will order separately.

I now prefer to use this china to entertain rather than my bone china.I highly recommend this set of Villeroy and Boch fine china.
